The Automobile and the State: 1930s Cover Art from R.A.C.I., the Royal Automobile Club of Italy

Edward Eves Collection

Englishman Edward Eves, whom friends merrily called Ted, was a distinguished photo-journalist who worked in the automotive industry and also covered motor sports. His career advanced in the years after World War II, and he held editorial posts with the British enthusiast's magazines Autocourse and The Autocar. Eves was a gifted motor sports photographer and he is recognized for his pioneering action photography using color film. He had a keen interest in early race car technology and automotive history and held opinions occasionally in sharp contrast to prevailing viewpoints. Mr. Eves assembled an image archive, some of which became part of the Ludvigsen Library. These images include motor trade shows, industry visits and automotive personalities. Most of the Eves motor sports imagery was acquired by the Klementasky Collection. Ted lived out his retirement in Portugal and passed away in 1999.
